MIDLAND -- Russell Grosteffon is a quilting dynamo who produced 65 quilts last year.
He does it all, from designing the pattern to cutting and sewing and tying the finished quilt with pieces of yarn.
This is even more amazing when you consider that he's 87.
"When I started out last year, I was going to make one a week," he said. "I ended up with 65. I gave all 65 away."
Grosteffon estimates he has made more than 1,000 quilts. Most of the blocked beauties are donated to organizations such as the Salvation Army and United Way of Midland County, or to local churches.
People who've lost their homes in a fire often get one of his quilts.
And some are given to church missionaries and will travel to the far corners of the Earth.
